Be Part of McHenry’s Story Along the Fox River
In celebration of America’s 250th Birthday, the McHenry Riverwalk Foundation is creating a one-of-a-kind community mural — and you are invited to be part of it.
This isn’t just a mural. It’s 650 individual stories coming together as one powerful image.
For $50, you can purchase a tile—or buy three and get one free—to help build a large-scale mural that will be installed in the downtown area for a minimum of three years.
When completed, the individual tiles will unite to form one breathtaking image — created entirely by our community.
This is a fundraiser for the McHenry Riverwalk Foundation, a 501 c (3).
🧩 How It Works
- Each tile is $50, or 4 tiles for $150.
- Each participant receives a complete painting kit
- You’ll follow guided painting instructions to ensure your tile fits perfectly into the final mural
- No artistic experience required — just community spirit.

- Your assigned mural tile
- All necessary painting supplies
- Access to our Custom Online Learning Portal with step-by-step painting demos
- Clear directions to ensure a cohesive and beautiful final mural
- Every tile follows a specific section of the master design so that when they’re installed together, they form one unified image.
📅 Important Dates
- Tile Purchase Deadline: May 2
- Tile Return Deadline: May 15
- Mural Unveiling: Saturday, July 4 (time TBD)
- Display Duration: Minimum of 3 years along the Fox River Riverwalk

📍Pickup & Drop-Off Details
- Painting kits can be picked up at McHenry Recreation Center (3636 Municipal Drive, McHenry, IL 60050) April 27-May 2.
- You’ll receive an email notification when your kit is ready for pickup.
- Painted tiles must be dropped off at the McHenry Recreation Center no later than May 15.
